Volunteer and
make a difference
In kitchen, on the road, individuals make a difference
There are many
opportunities for one to volunteer, from preparing meal
containers, to placing food in trays, to sorting meals into
route-appropriate bags/coolers, to driving and delivering meals
to recipients.
Volunteers are welcome to help with one or any of
these tasks, depending on their interest and availability,
so contact Friendship Trays at
704-333-9229.

There are more than a thousand faithful volunteers (95 each weekday) who deliver our meals seven days a week. Volunteer as often as once a week or as little as once a month. Some routes are designed for working people, done easily in a lunch hour. We are sensitive to the needs of busy people who are looking for meaningful ways to volunteer in our community.
Specific Volunteer Tasks:
Early Birds 7:30 am. The Early Bird counts the trays to be filled for the day and prepares the large shopping bags to be used for the following day.
Kitchen helpers 8:00 am. The Kitchen Helpers put the food in containers so it is ready for the drivers.
Baggers 9:00 am. The Baggers prepare the beverages in the cooler for drivers and sort meal trays into bags numbered by route.
Distributors 10:30 am. Two Distributors help each driver locate the chilled meals that match the day's route sheet. Most meals are labeled by general diet, but some meals carry individual recipients' names to adhere to doctor-ordered diets.
Drivers 10:30 am-12:00 pm. Drivers allow an
hour and a half to drop off the meals to the individuals on a
route. In that time, volunteers deliver much more than food: The deliver a
smile, a helping hand, and a daily visit from someone who cares.
Office volunteers. Office Volunteers answer the phone and record information, open mail, and help with large mailings.
Fund-raising and Special Events volunteers. These volunteers assist with fund-raising events and help with volunteer appreciation events.
