Lowe's donates washing machine
Oct. 26, 2010
The washing machine on Distribution Street does the kitchen towels .. and washrags ... and culinary coats ... and tableclothes in an endless cycle of soiled to clean that's been going on since the facility opened in 1996.
So when the washing machine went bad very recently, it was a big deal.
Lowe's Home Improvement stepped up to the plate and delivered a right-sized donation. At right, Kitchen Manager Sibyl Durant prepares to use the new washer Tuesday afternoon. Durant and other staff members took laundry home for several days before the Lowe's machine arrived.
The web of volunteers, foodstuffs, utilities, packaging, donor dollars and good heart that allow Friendship Trays to feed more than 700 people every day is made of tough stuff.
But every kitchen simply has to have clean towels and washrags. Our thanks to Lowe's Home Improvement.
