Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx 3-24-10Mayors for

Meals Day

March 24, 2010

A number of Charlotte-Mecklenburg elected officials helped Friendship Trays mark Mayors For Meals Day on Wednesday. At right, Executive Director Lucy Bush Carter points out route sheet details to Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx at Friendship Trays' main facility in South End. Below, City Council member and District Attorney candidate Michael Barnes heads to his car after picking up meals for his route. To the north, Huntersville Mayor Jill Swain, Davidson Mayor John Wood and Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte also delivered meals. Mayors for Meals is a national day organized by the Meals On Wheels Association of America to promote public awareness of the needs of homebound and ailing Americans. These public officials joined more than 100 volunteers Wednesday in the effort to look in on homebound citizens each weekday and deliver them nutritious meals that meet their dietary needs. You too can help. Call Volunteer Coordinator Lani Lawrence at 704-333-9229 to discuss volunteer opportunties at Friendship Trays.
