Getting the word out by meal box
Jan. 12, 2010
Fire and life safety educators from the Charlotte Fire Department regularly deliver a dozen or so Friendship Trays meals, offering along the route to check recipients' carbon monoxide and smoke alarms to be sure they are in working order. When they find the life-saving detectors missing, they come back and install them. Tuesday, to reach a much larger audience, the volunteers stuck the reminder labels above on more than 600 meal boxes going out that morning. The text reads: "Sound the alarm: Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly."
