BI-Lo presents checks to area helping agencies

Nov. 19, 2009

Nonprofit representatives gathered Thursday at Distribution Street. They came forward to receive their checks and have their pictures taken. The people they serve are the beneficiaries.

Thirteen area schools and nonprofit agencies received checks totaling more than $44,500. The details are listed below.

The donations were part of $4,270,309 in support being presented this month by BI-LO Charities.

The checks distributed in the Community Culinary School of Charlotte classroom were distributed by Regional Vice President Sam Blaiss, right, and BI-LO official Stacy Helms, above left..

Donations go to charities in areas where BI-Lo operates. Another event for area charities was being held Thursday afternoon in Gastonia.

BI-LO's annual donations are in large part raised at its Charity Classic Golf Tournment. More than 500 agencies regularly benefit from the support. According to the company, BI-LO Charities has donated more than $44 million over the last 25 years in its market area of the Carolinas, Georgia and Tennessee.

More information on the event and the donations will be posted later at the BI-LO Charities website.
