Kimberly Charles and her children Emma, left, and Allie moved to Mecklenburg only this summer, and heard about Friendship Trays on a WCNC broadcast that showed a child volunteering in the kitchen. Mrs. Charles said that broadcast convinced them to inquire about doing the same. Above, the children were right on the line Thursday with the adults, packaging mostly fish, peas and carrots for Friday delivery. With schools about to open, there won't be children around soon. We'll miss them. There's no better way for children – or adults – to learn the value of giving back to their community.
