Culinary school prepares for the 'Hungry Hungarians,'
gets a splendid choral surprise after lunch
For weeks, they had been known at only as the Hungry Hungarians. Thanks for that go to Ron Ahlert, the executive director of the Community Culinary School. Ron has a sense of humor.
And when dozens of Hungarians debarked from a tour bus, it seemed like a tour group -- a hungry tour group. And what better place to stop for lunch than at a Culinary School? Alhert and students of Class 32 served up a fine lunch for the group, they ate and Ahlert was ready to say goodbye.
But the Debrecen-Nagytemplomi Reformatus Egyhazkozseg Korusanak (roughly, place name plus Reform Church Choir) had something else on their mind.
First it was a little Bach.
Then there was a native tune.
They concluded with "My Lord what a morning." Ahlert said he had to force back tears. Friendship Trays Executive Director Lucy Bush Carter said she just let the tears flow. Ahlert asked for an interpreter, then thanked the choir for inspiring all who heard their impromptu a cappella concert.
