Longtime Friendship Trays volunteer Guilford Oldham dies
Guilford Oldham has died. Friendship Trays Executive Director Lucy Bush Carter called Oldham “a most loyal volunteer” and director-emeritus of Friendship Trays.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Rd. Read the Observer obituary.

Guilford Carney Oldham
Mr. Oldham, formerly of Charlotte, died December 17, 2008, in Atlanta GA at the age of 97. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Oldham at Avondale Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 15th at 11:00 AM. He is buried in Sharon Memorial Park next to Emily Scott Oldham, his wife of 54 years. Visitation with family and friends will be at the church in the McLean Fellowship Hall following the service.
Mr. Oldham was born in Wilmington, NC on June 21, 1911, the third child to the late James Allen and Jane Horne Oldham. He attended NC State University where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order of Fraternity. He graduated in 1935 with a degree in civil engineering and worked in that capacity for a number of construction firms in both Charlotte and Raleigh. He was a long-time member of the NCSU Engineering and Wolfpack Clubs.
Mr. Oldham was a founding member of Avondale Presbyterian
Church. Over the years, he served as both a deacon and an elder and in
numerous advisory positions with the church. After his retirement he became
an active volunteer and member of the Board of Directors at Friendship
Trays.
Mr. Oldham also served on the Board of Directors of Alexander Children's
Home.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Oldham was preceded in death by his son Guilford C. Oldham, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter Susan O. Leonard of Atlanta; grandchildren, Scott E. Leonard of Dallas, Texas and Emily O. Lawson of Oregon and five great-grandchildren.
