Roller Girls deliver a surprise

Executive Director Director Lucy Bush Carter, left, reacts to the presentation of a $2,000 donation to Friendship Trays from the Charlotte Roller Girls. Members of the team have driven routes for Charlotte's primary meals-on-wheels program. The presentation occurred at the Bojangles Coliseum on Independence Boulevard at Saturday's bout. The Charlotte squads split Saturday's double-header, losing 63-61 to Myrtle Beach's Palmetto State Roller Girls and winning 115-100 over Columbia's Richland County Regulators. Charlotte Roller Girls is a skater-owned and operated organization that plays and promotes women's flat-track roller derby. For their 2008 season, team members chose Friendship Trays as a nonprofit partner. Skaters have driven delivery routes for Friendship Trays, and the team is developing ways to financially support Friendship Trays' work. At this Dec. 6 bout, the team donated $2,000 to support Friendship Trays' work.
