Friendship Trays delivers last hot meals to home-based recipients

Steam rising from food on the line and from a huge cooking kettle, foreground, obscures this picture taken Tuesday, April 15, as volunteers and staff serve up the last Friendship Trays designed to be delivered hot to area recipients' homes.

Beginning Wednesday, April 16, 2008, all home-delivered trays will contain food chilled immediately after cooking. The process captures more nutrients, and the food both looks better and tastes better.

Conversion to the chilled program, which involved some new equipment, lots of training and an extensive communications effort with recipients to explain the change, began more than a year ago. The first chilled meals were delivered in mid-December.

Meals to be delivered to area adult day care centers for immediate consumption will remain hot.
