Engage Charlotte volunteer gains
Amazing Race points
The green bandana on her wrist gave her away.
Kelly Lynn, marketing/development associate for Youth Homes Inc., was doing her usual stint as a volunteer driver at Friendship Trays. But she was also gaining points in her quest to win Engage Charlotte's Amazing Race.
Engage Charlotte is the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce's group aimed at encouraging activism and professional growth among young professionals. Its Amazing Race, launched June 29, offers contestants points in exchange for completion of activities in categories called Arts and Culture, Business and Community, Tourist in Your Own City, Sports and Adventure, Fun and Festivals, and Volunteering. The Race was scheduled to end in an Aug. 24 party. In the spirit of an event designed to encourage participation, contestants hoping for first or second prize in the Amazing Race were told they'd have to be present at the party to win.

Whether
there's a contest on or not, Friendship Trays is always looking to award
hugs and thank-you's to people willing to drive routes or help package food
for delivery in the Friendship Trays kitchen.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of
this community service. For 30 years, Friendship Trays has been
delivering, in a caring and friendly manner, balanced meals to individuals
in this community who are unable, because of age or infirmity, to obtain and
prepare their own meal.
