20-day average meal count for 2009
The number of meals served varies from day to day as recipients are added, or as they cancel service for a day when they will be away. Dialysis patients often are away for lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So the red circles below chart the wide swings in the daily meal count. The circles show that Friendship Trays is currently serving more than 700 meals on some days.
The blue diamonds in the chart below mark the 20-day rolling average number of meals served.

For most of Friendship Trays' history, meals were delivered one at a time to recipients' homes. In the last two years, a portion of the meals have been delivered to or picked up by adult day care centers. The chart lists the percentage of total meals that go to day cares.
"Recovery" is a label. Each meal served has a "price," currently set at $4.50. About two-thirds of our recipients live in poverty and are unable to pay the full price. Nearly everyone pays something, but the result is that the payments for a given day's meals fall well short of the total price of those meals. Donations make up the difference. The lower the recovery, the more demand for donations.
